Measles Out-Break Response (OBR) Vaccination Campaign targeting children aged 6 months – 10 years was conducted in the 46 high-risk LGAs in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States in February 2017. In order to assess the effectiveness of the campaign, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and World Health Organization (WHO) engaged Hanovia Limited to conduct a coverage survey using a globally standardized protocol. The objectives of the household-based Measles (OBR) Vaccination Coverage Survey were to: (a) assess the level of measles coverage in the 46 high-risk LGAs in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States by age and sex; (b) identify the subgroups of target population that were not vaccinated; (c) identify the main reasons for non –vaccination; (d) identify key communication channels used for the campaign; (e) estimate the proportion of notified Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFIs) reported during the campaign and after vaccination against measles; and (f) identify strengths and weaknesses of measles campaign program management.
A total of 11,985 households were visited by enumerators in all the 1,355 selected clusters surveyed across the 46 high-risk LGAs of the 3 States of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe. In all the households, a total of 9,485 interviews were conducted on caregivers of eligible children. Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method ensured that data was captured on android devices with capacity for global positioning determination.
