This assignment was carried out in Nasarawa State which is one out of the three PBF States in Nigeria as a pilot. Management strengthening of PHCs aimed at improving management practices of the Officers-in-Charge (OICs), and improving utilization and quality of immunization services for target PHCs. Consequently, PHCs in the bottom quintile in performance and management practices scores were selected as targets. The purpose of the assignment was to provide quality coordination and program implementation to 18 target PHCs in selected three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Nasarawa State, and to strengthen their management capacity in health service delivery with special attention to immunization services.
The PHC management strengthening activities were implemented in three broad phases: (a) preparatory phase; (b) implementation of management strengthening activities, including baseline assessment of management capacity of target OICs/PHCs; and (c) post assessment of management capacity of target OICs/PHCs.
