August 31, 2025
Last Update: August 2025
The Federal Government of Nigeria and Bauchi State Government, with support from Nutrition International (NI), are introducing multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) to replace iron and folic acid (IFA) in antenatal care. To encourage better use and adherence, tailored solutions were developed using a human-centered design approach. Surveys in selected LGAs of Bauchi State were conducted to assess how well these solutions work, as well as their feasibility and sustainability.

Baseline and Endline Data Collection Targets Pregnant Women and Healthcare Workers
The survey targeted 1,484 pregnant or recently postpartum women, 1,484 husbands, and 96 health workers across 46 wards in four LGAs of Bauchi State during the baseline in 2024. During the endline in 2025, 1,461 pregnant women or postpartum women, 1461 husbands and 170 health care workers were targeted for the survey.
Hanovia developed the research protocol and evaluation tools alongside the NI research team, as well as carried out data collection, data analysis and reporting.
Findings will inform cost-effectiveness analysis and provide evidence to guide scale-up of MMS in Nigeria.
